Description
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland (a small gland in the brain) in all mammals. The reduced amount of daylight to nightfall stimulate higher release of melatonin. It is believed that its primary function is to control the “biological clock” also called circadian rhythms of the body (alternating states of alertness / sleep, seasonal adaptations) and related cycling of vital processes (immune function, reproduction, etc.) With age the amount of produced melatonin decreases. Some studies show that it effectively and safely can reset “the biological clock” that helps regulate sleep disruption, especially its delayed onset.
Another biological role of melatonin is to prevent the suppression of immune function induced by stress by limiting the influence of stress hormones. In recent years evidence of positive effects of melatonin in combination cancer therapy in certain malignancies occurs.
Indications
– It favors the natural processes of sleep and is used in sleep disturbances associated with age, stress, mode, travel with a change of time zones, etc.
