Description
Ropinirole is a non-ergoline dopaminergic agonist. It reduces dopamine deficiency by stimulating striatal dopamine receptors. It acts in the hypothalamus and pituitary to inhibit prolactin secretion.
Indications
Treatment of Parkinson’s disease in the following cases:
- initial monotherapy in order to delay the necessity of starting a treatment with Levodopa.
- Combination therapy with Levodopa, when during the course of the disease the effect of the Levodopa becomes exhausted or unstable, and fluctuations appear (exhaustion phenomena or “on-off” motive phenomena).
